Emergency & Urgent Care

We have a veterinarian and technicians on duty 7 days a week who specialize in emergency care and are equipped to handle any urgent care your dog or cat has. An emergency team consists of at least one veterinarian and technicians working together to save a pet's life.

We provide emergency and critical care for dogs and cats. Our in-house laboratory testing and x-ray facilities, mean that we can have results while you wait. We routinely treat allergic reactions, cardio-vascular shock, trauma (hit by car, etc), venomous snake bites, toxic ingestions, heat stroke, respiratory distress, parvovirus, vomiting, diarrhea, assist in labor and delivery, repair lacerations, and other critical or urgent situations.

For critically ill patients, we can provide i.v. fluid therapy and medications, intensive care hospitalization, oxygen therapy, transfusions, emergency surgery, or intensive care in isolation. Area veterinarians transfer patients to us for overnight treatments and observation when patients are not stable. Patients can stay at MEAC under the care of Dr. Roberts during daytime hours. This is most true for patients who are too unstable to transport, post-operative patients that need continued care and patients that require specialized testing such as an ultrasound. The veterinarian on duty will assist in determining if your pet needs to stay at MEAC, needs to return to your family veterinarian or can go home.

We are also available for urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening, but you feel your pet needs to be seen before your regular veterinarian is open.

If you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment do not hesitate to call or come in immediately. If possible it is best to call before coming in so that a team member can advise you on your particular emergency.
